Banners¶
A banner is the coloured strip that runs across the very top of every page in the shop. You use it to announce something, like a sale or free shipping.
A banner does not hold its own discount. Instead it advertises a discount you already made in Campaigns. You pick that campaign from a dropdown, and the banner shows off its coupon code. All the real settings (the amount off, the products, the limits) stay on the campaign.
Make the discount first
If you want the banner to promote a coupon, go to Campaigns and create the discount there before you make the banner. Then come back here and pick it. See the Campaigns guide for how.
How to open it¶
In the menu down the left-hand side of the admin, click Banners.
You will see a table of your banners, each with its text, region, coupon, discount, dates, and whether it is live or off right now. Only one banner shows at a time per region. Click New banner (top right) to make one, or click a row to edit it.
What you can do here¶
Create a new banner¶
- Click New banner.
- Fill in the sections below.
- Click Create banner at the bottom.
Edit an existing banner¶
- Click the banner's text in the table.
- Change what you need.
- Click Save changes.
Delete a banner¶
- Open the banner.
- Click Delete banner (bottom left, in red).
- Confirm when asked. This cannot be undone.
Fill in the top section (text, region, colour)¶
- Banner text — the words shown in the strip, e.g. "Free shipping over 1000 SEK - use code". Required.
- Region — choose Global - all regions, or one region. A region-specific banner replaces the global one for visitors in that region.
- Background color — the strip's colour. You can:
- Type a colour code such as
#0f1b17, or - Click the little colour square to pick one, or
- Click one of the preset buttons: Dark green (default), Royal blue, Rose, Amber, or Slate.
Fill in the "Discount" section¶
- Discount campaign — a dropdown of the discounts you made in Campaigns. Pick one to have the banner announce its code, or pick No discount (banner only) if the banner is just an announcement.
- If the dropdown says no campaigns exist yet, click Create a discount to jump to Campaigns and make one first, then come back.
Where the discount settings live
Picking a campaign here only advertises it. To change the amount off, the products, the code, or the limits, edit that campaign in Campaigns — not the banner.
Fill in the "Scheduling" section¶
- Status — pick one:
- Active — the banner can show.
- Draft (hidden) — saved but not shown.
- Archived — retired.
- Starts at — optional. When the banner begins showing.
- Ends at — optional. When it stops. Leave blank to run with no end date.
Save¶
Click Create banner (new) or Save changes (editing) at the bottom.
Every field explained¶
| Field | What it does | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Banner text | The words in the top strip | Required |
| Region | Where the banner shows | Global, or one region; a region banner overrides the global one there |
| Background color | The strip's colour | Type a code, use the picker, or click a preset |
| Discount campaign | The existing discount the banner promotes | Pick one, or No discount (banner only) |
| Status | Whether the banner can show | Active / Draft (hidden) / Archived |
| Starts at | Optional start time | |
| Ends at | Optional end time | Blank = no end date |
Common mistakes¶
\"No discount (banner only)\" advertises no code
Choosing No discount (banner only) means the banner just shows its text and promotes nothing. If you meant to advertise a coupon, pick the actual campaign from the Discount campaign dropdown instead.
Create the discount in Campaigns first
The Discount campaign dropdown only lists campaigns that already have a real discount and a coupon code. If the discount you want is not in the list, it has not been set up yet (or has no code). Go to Campaigns, create or fix it, then return here.
The banner does not set the discount amount
The amount off, the eligible products, the usage limits, and the code all come from the campaign. Editing the banner never changes them. To change the offer, edit the campaign.
Only one banner shows per region at a time
If several banners are Active for the same region and dates, only one appears. Use the Region, Status, Starts at, and Ends at fields so the right banner is the live one.
Customers still have to enter the code
The banner shows the code, but the discount is not applied automatically. The customer must type the code (or pick it from the "Available coupons" list) at checkout. Make sure the code is clearly visible in the banner text.
Still stuck?
Email developers@kavelsoftware.se and tell them the banner text, its region, and which discount you were trying to show. A screenshot helps.
