Translating content¶

This is where the website's content - products, pages, brands, campaigns, and events - gets translated from Swedish into the other languages. A translation service called DeepL does the work automatically every night, and this screen lets you watch it, run it on demand, and keep an eye on how much translation quota you have left.

It translates content, not the buttons

The automatic translator only translates the content you write - your products and pages. It does not translate the CMS admin itself (the menus, buttons, and labels you see while working here). Those are part of the software.

How to open it¶

Sign in to the CMS admin.
In the menu, click Translations.
At the top you'll see how much translation quota is left this month, and below it the settings, the button to run a translation now, and a history of past runs.

How content gets translated (the short version)¶

Every night at 03:00 the system automatically goes through everything translatable - products, brands, campaigns, CMS pages, and events - and fills in any missing translations for each language.
It only fills in what's missing. It leaves alone anything you've already translated by hand.
The moment you edit and save any translation yourself, that item is locked. The nightly job will never overwrite your wording.
For CMS pages, it also translates the words inside your blocks (slideshow descriptions, section headings, body text, buttons). The pictures and the order of blocks stay the same in every language.

Run a translation now¶

You don't have to wait for the night. This is handy right after you add a new product or page.

In the Run now card on the right, click Trigger now.
Confirm when it asks. It then calls DeepL for every untranslated item, which can take a couple of minutes on a big catalogue.
The live log opens automatically so you can watch progress.

Watch the live log¶

When a run starts (or when you click any row in the history), a panel slides in from the right showing:

A progress bar with how many items are done and how many are left.
The current step it's working on.
A running log of each item, colour-coded: green for translated, grey for skipped, amber for warnings, red for errors.
A Follow checkbox that keeps the log scrolled to the newest line.

The log updates itself every couple of seconds while the run is going, and stops on its own when the run finishes.

Read the run history¶

The Run history table lists past runs with:

When it ran and whether it was scheduled (nightly) or triggered by hand.
How many items were Translated and how many had Errors.
A Breakdown of what was translated (P = products, B = brands, C = campaigns, Pg = pages, E = events).
How many DeepL characters the run used.
A Status: ok (all good), partial (some errors), disabled (turned off), or an error state.

Click any row to reopen its live log.

Edit a translation by hand (per language)¶

The automatic translation is a starting point. To fix or improve the wording for one language, you edit the item itself:

For a page, open it under Pages, click the language tab at the top, and edit the words. See Building website pages.
Products and other content have the same language tabs on their own edit screens.

As soon as you save your own wording, that item is locked and the nightly job leaves it untouched from then on.

Set up the translation service (DeepL)¶

The DeepL configuration card shows whether a key is set and where it came from. To add or change it:

Paste your DeepL API key into the box. (Use Show to check you pasted it correctly.)
Click Save. It takes effect immediately.
Click Test current key to confirm it works and see your quota.

Note

Free DeepL keys end in :fx and are handled automatically. There's an Advanced option to override the service address, but you can normally ignore it. You can get a key from DeepL's website via the Get a key link on the card.

Keep an eye on quota¶

The big gauge at the top shows how many translation characters you have left this month. It turns amber, then red, as you get close to the limit. If you run out, translations stop until the quota resets or you upgrade your DeepL plan.

Every field explained¶

Thing on the screen	What it means
DeepL quota gauge	How many translation characters are left this month, and the percentage used.
Trigger now	Starts a translation pass immediately instead of waiting for 03:00.
Languages - Source	The language you write in (Swedish).
Languages - Targets	The languages content is translated into.
Last run	When the most recent run happened, how it started, its result, and how many items it translated.
Run history	A list of past runs you can click into.
Breakdown (P/B/C/Pg/E)	Products / Brands / Campaigns / Pages / Events translated in that run.
DeepL chars	How much of your quota that run used.
Status	ok, partial (some errors), disabled, or an error.
DeepL API key	The key that lets the system talk to the DeepL service.
Show / Hide	Reveals or masks the key while you type it.
Save	Stores the key; it works right away.
Test current key	Checks the saved key works and shows your quota.
Live log - Follow	Keeps the log auto-scrolled to the newest line.

Common mistakes¶

Watch out for these

Expecting the buttons and menus to change language. The automatic translator only translates your content (products, pages, and so on). The CMS admin interface itself is not translated by it.
Re-running to "fix" your own edits. Once you save a translation by hand, the nightly job will never touch it again. Running it again won't overwrite your wording - which is the point.
Trying to run with no key set up. If Trigger now is greyed out, add a DeepL key in the configuration card first.
Ignoring the quota gauge. If it's red, you're nearly out of translation characters and new content may stop being translated until the quota resets.
Waiting overnight when you don't have to. Just added something and want it translated now? Click Trigger now.
