Collections

Hi Nina! A collection is a themed group of products — think "Summer Favourites" or "Gift Ideas". Collections give the website its own pages and fill the shop's top-menu dropdowns, so customers can browse products by theme.

What this is

A place to create groups of products, give each group a title, cover picture and description, choose whether it shows in the shop's top menu, and decide which products go in it and in what order.

Each collection powers its own web page and can appear in the storefront PRODUKTER and KAMPANJER menus.

How to open it

  1. Sign in to the admin.
  2. In the left-hand menu, click Collections.
  3. You will see a table with a small picture, title, handle, how many products each has, whether it shows in the menu, and its menu order.
  4. Click any collection title to open it, or click New collection (top right) to make one.

What you can do here

Create a new collection

  1. Click New collection at the top right.
  2. Type a Title (required).
  3. Type a Handle (required). As you type, it is tidied into a web-friendly nickname automatically (lowercase, hyphens instead of spaces).
  4. Optionally paste a Cover image URL (a web address for a picture).
  5. Tick Show in storefront PRODUKTER dropdown if you want this collection in the shop's top menu.
  6. Set a Nav sort order number if you want to control its place in that menu.
  7. Click Create + add products.
  8. The collection is saved and opens on its edit page, where you add the products.

Edit a collection's details

  1. Open the collection from the list.
  2. In the Metadata box at the top, change the title, handle, cover image, description or menu settings.
  3. Click Save metadata.
  4. A green Saved. message confirms it.

Two separate Save buttons

This screen has two save buttons. Save metadata saves the details at the top. Save product list saves the products at the bottom. Saving one does not save the other — click both if you changed both.

Add a cover image

  1. In the Metadata box, find Cover image URL.
  2. Paste the web address of a picture into the box.
  3. Optionally fill in Cover image alt text — a short written description of the picture for people who cannot see it.
  4. Click Save metadata.

Note

On this screen the cover image is added by pasting a web address. There is no upload-from-your-computer button here.

Add products to a collection

  1. Open the collection.
  2. Look at the Products in this collection section.
  3. On the right, under Available products, use the Filter by title or handle box to find a product.
  4. Click Add next to a product to move it into the collection (it appears in the left-hand list).
  5. When you are done, click Save product list.

Remove a product

  1. In the left-hand In collection list, find the product.
  2. Click Remove next to it.
  3. Click Save product list.

Change the order products appear in

  1. In the In collection list, use the up arrow () and down arrow () next to a product to move it.
  2. The order shown here is exactly the order customers see on the website.
  3. Click Save product list when finished.

Show or hide the collection in the shop menu

  1. In the Metadata box, tick or untick Show in storefront PRODUKTER dropdown.
  2. Set the Nav sort order number to control its position in the menu (see the field table below).
  3. Click Save metadata.

Every field explained

Field What it means Notes
Title The collection's display name. Required.
Handle Short lowercase nickname used in the web address (a "slug"). Required. Tidied automatically as you type.
Cover image URL Web address of the collection's cover picture. Paste a link. No upload button on this screen.
Cover image alt text A short written description of the cover picture. Helps people using screen readers. Optional.
Description (HTML) A longer description shown on the collection's page. Accepts formatting codes (HTML). Plain text is fine too.
Show in storefront PRODUKTER dropdown Whether the collection appears in the shop's top menu. A tick box.
Nav sort order A number setting the collection's place in the menu. Lower number = appears earlier.
BAS account code An accounting revenue code (for bookkeeping export), e.g. 3001. Numbers only. Leave blank if unsure — ask your finance contact.

Common mistakes

Watch out for these

  • Saving only one half. Remember the two save buttons. Changing products and details means clicking both Save metadata and Save product list.
  • Expecting an upload button for the cover image. Here you paste a picture's web address; there is no file picker.
  • Wrong product order. The order in the In collection list is what customers see. Arrange it with the ↑ and ↓ arrows before saving.
  • Guessing the BAS account code. This is a bookkeeping field. If you are unsure, leave it blank and check with whoever handles the accounts.
  • Duplicate handle. Two collections should not share the same handle.
