Brands¶
Hi Nina! This page is your address book of the makers behind the products. Each brand is one company or label. When you fill in a brand here, its name, logo and story can show up next to the products that belong to it on the website.
What this is¶
A place to add, edit and remove brands. A brand holds a name, a short web-friendly nickname, an optional logo, a country, a description and a number that controls the order brands appear in lists.
Brands do not hold products here. You attach a product to a brand from that product's own page, not from this screen.
How to open it¶
- Sign in to the admin.
- In the left-hand menu, click Brands.
- You will see a table of all brands, showing name, handle, country, sort number and the date each was last changed.
- Click any brand name to open and edit it, or click the New brand button (top right) to add one.
What you can do here¶
Create a new brand¶
- Click New brand at the top right.
- Type the Name (this one is required).
- Type a Handle (also required) — a short lowercase nickname used in the web address, like
nordic-soap. Use only lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, and make it different from every other brand's handle. - Optionally fill in the Description, Logo, Country and Sort order (all explained below).
- Click Create.
- The brand is saved and opens on its own edit page.
Edit an existing brand¶
- From the Brands list, click the brand's name.
- Change any field you like.
- Click Save.
- A green Saved. message confirms it worked.
Add or change the logo¶
- On the brand's page, find the Logo area.
- To upload a picture from your computer, click Upload..., choose the image file, and wait for it to finish. The web address of the uploaded image fills in for you and a preview appears.
- To use a picture that already lives online, paste its web address into the box that says https://… or upload.
- To remove the logo, click Clear.
- Click Save to keep your change.
Set the country¶
- In the Country box, type the two-letter country code, for example
SEfor Sweden,KRfor Korea,USfor the United States. - The box automatically makes the letters capital and only keeps two of them.
- Click Save.
Change the order brands appear in¶
- In the Sort order box, type a number.
- A lower number puts the brand earlier in lists; a higher number puts it later.
- Click Save.
Delete a brand¶
- Open the brand you want to remove.
- Click the red Delete button at the bottom left.
- A pop-up asks you to confirm. It warns that any products linked to this brand will lose their brand link.
- Click OK to delete, or Cancel to keep it.
Every field explained¶
| Field | What it means | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Name | The brand's display name. | Required. |
| Handle | Short lowercase nickname used in the web address (a "slug"). | Required. Lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens only. Must be unique. |
| Description (HTML) | A longer description of the brand. | This box accepts formatting codes (HTML). If you are not comfortable with codes, just type plain text — it will still work. |
| Logo | The brand's logo image. | Upload from your computer, paste a web address, or clear it. |
| Country (ISO alpha-2) | The brand's home country as a two-letter code. | For example SE, KR, US. Letters become capitals automatically. |
| Sort order | A number that sets the brand's place in lists. | Lower number = appears earlier. Default is 0. |
Common mistakes¶
Watch out for these
- Two brands with the same handle. Each handle must be unique. If saving fails, check that no other brand already uses that nickname.
- Spaces or capitals in the handle. Stick to lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, like
green-house. - Forgetting to click Save. Typing in a box does not save it. Always click Save (or Create for a new brand) and wait for the green confirmation.
- Deleting a brand you still need. Deleting cannot be undone from here, and any products linked to that brand lose their link. Double-check before confirming.
- Pasting a broken logo link. If you paste a web address, make sure the preview picture actually appears.
